(J.M. – USA) I left work early on Friday, and so on Monday, when I came into the office, there was a nice long \u2018to do\u2019 list\u2026emails from clients, voicemails to return, regular mail to open.\u00a0 When I sat down at my desk, I immediately threw myself into the tasks. I had marked myself on our company in and out board as \u2018in\u2019 but \u2018\u201dDND\u2019 (Do<\/span> Not<\/span> Disturb<\/span>).<\/p>\n

After a few minutes, there was a knock at the door, and one of our younger staff opened the door and said \u201cGood morning, how was your weekend?\u201d\u00a0 Of course, my first thought was, \u201cHey, didn\u2019t you see the D\u2011N-D<\/span> in the in and out board?\u201d My second thought was \u201cI don\u2019t have time for this, I hope she hurries up.\u201d\u00a0 Then, I remembered, \u201cThis is my neighbor, she is important.\u201d<\/p>\n

I told her about my weekend and asked about hers. We also talked about her young son who had been sick the week before, and caused her to miss work to take care of him.\u00a0I really tried to listen well, and offered some of my own sick child experiences.<\/p>\n

In a short time, she also asked about the work load this week and what she could do, especially to help me.\u00a0 By the time she left my office, she had taken two piles of my things, and I couldn\u2019t help smiling, knowing that this \u2018relief\u2019 was a sure sign of doing the right thing to take a moment to pay attention to every person.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
