(J.M. – Indiana, USA) – Yes, I had an experience when I had rolled “Value Person, Every Idea!” We were having a problem on a particular project that didn’t seem to have an obvious solution. People were intent on offering what they thought could resolve it, but no one seemed to be listening to each other.

Finally, I recalled the cube, and asked the youngest most inexperienced member of the team what she thought, since she had been silent and was not given a chance to speak. The solution she offered was a combination of several of the ideas that had been suggested, plus a special twist of her own. When she had finished, there was a brief silence from everyone, a little in amazement. “I think she just nailed it!” said another senior manager.

I knew it was The Company Cube that had really offered the right solution – everyone has value!

(J.R. – Indiana, USA) – Last week I was playing ‘phone tag’ with a client who need some work completed in a tight timeframe. On Monday, I was on my way to a dinner when I received a message from a client requesting a phone call later in the evening. I knew I could cut the dinner short to talk to him on my way home in the car, but remembered the cube that said, “Value Every Person, Every Idea.” The people that I was meeting that evening deserved my full attention too.

I asked my client if we could talk the next day and he was agreeable. During the dinner one friend shared a tough time she had been going through and I was grateful to be fully there for her not and looking at the clock. When I talked to my client the next day, we made a lot of progress as I was able to spend more time and attention with him as well.

We celebrated one of our employee’s birthday today with a little gathering of fresh fruit and snacks. It was great to find out ‘the story’ of his birth, what was happening 28 years ago on his birthday, what was the No. 1 song in America on that day, and to get to know him better. Thanks Cube!

(J.M. – USA) I left work early on Friday, and so on Monday, when I came into the office, there was a nice long ‘to do’ list…emails from clients, voicemails to return, regular mail to open. When I sat down at my desk, I immediately threw myself into the tasks. I had marked myself on our company in and out board as ‘in’ but ‘”DND’ (Do Not Disturb).

After a few minutes, there was a knock at the door, and one of our younger staff opened the door and said “Good morning, how was your weekend?” Of course, my first thought was, “Hey, didn’t you see the D‑N-D in the in and out board?” My second thought was “I don’t have time for this, I hope she hurries up.” Then, I remembered, “This is my neighbor, she is important.”

I told her about my weekend and asked about hers. We also talked about her young son who had been sick the week before, and caused her to miss work to take care of him. I really tried to listen well, and offered some of my own sick child experiences.

In a short time, she also asked about the work load this week and what she could do, especially to help me. By the time she left my office, she had taken two piles of my things, and I couldn’t help smiling, knowing that this ‘relief’ was a sure sign of doing the right thing to take a moment to pay attention to every person.
