Instructions with a New Attitude

Posted on November 4, 2013in Share Expertise, Time, Yourself

(K.K. – Illinois, USA) – This morning at work I rolled the Company Cube that I have on my desk and the side “Share expertise, time, yourself” came up.

A short time later I got a call from a staff member asking for how to download some materials for a task that I had sent instructions to him on only a few weeks prior. I started to get a bit irritated thinking that the person should have just followed the instructions I sent and they could have completed the task. I then thought about the cube I had rolled earlier that morning. Perhaps the person did not understand the instructions, or maybe I had not given the instructions in a clear manner, or maybe the person did not have the expertise to follow the instructions.

With this new frame of mind, I let go of the irritation and tried to coach the person through the steps to complete the task they were asking about. After a few moments the person saw how to do it and thanked me for helping them.

Relax and Restart

Posted on September 29, 2013in Supporter Comments

(Indiana, USA) – The perfect Company Cube….would not be a “Cube” but a Seven-sided 3D object….which when rolled on Sunday would always come up “RELAX, REFRESH, RENEW, RE-START!” These last two weeks of work were beyond busy…. Deadlines causing days to morph into nights and morph into weekends. We all have these periods in our lives when this happens, but they remind us of the saying that “We work to live, we don’t live to work!” It is also a time when we can thank the philosophy of The Company Cube that makes the time at work more meaningful, because it focuses us on living well each moment we have with the people around us and not just the bottomline. But, today….ahhhh…it is time to RELAX!

Giving Full Attention

Posted on September 18, 2013in Value Every Person, Every Idea

(J.R. – Indiana, USA) – Last week I was playing ‘phone tag’ with a client who need some work completed in a tight timeframe. On Monday, I was on my way to a dinner when I received a message from a client requesting a phone call later in the evening. I knew I could cut the dinner short to talk to him on my way home in the car, but remembered the cube that said, “Value Every Person, Every Idea.” The people that I was meeting that evening deserved my full attention too.

I asked my client if we could talk the next day and he was agreeable. During the dinner one friend shared a tough time she had been going through and I was grateful to be fully there for her not and looking at the clock. When I talked to my client the next day, we made a lot of progress as I was able to spend more time and attention with him as well.
